Gary Cahill, 33, arrived at Selhurst Park on a free transfer in the summer window, and the centre-back has nailed down a starting berth in Roy Hodgson’s first-choice XI – starting in his side’s last eight Premier League matches.

The former Chelsea man, who won two Premier League titles and the Champions League whilst at the club during a seven-year spell, was once again in excellent form on Sunday, as Palace continued their fine start to the season to remain sixth in the Premier League table.
