Chelsea: Fans react to indications Antonio Rudiger is a doubt for Valencia clash

Many Chelsea supporters have been reacting on social media after reports indicated Antonio Rudiger is a doubt for the Blues’ upcoming Champions League clash with La Liga side Valencia CF.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was hopeful that Rudiger would not be set for a spell on the sidelines following his side’s 5-2 victory away to Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday (Goal), in which the German centre-half was forced off with a suspected groin injury.

Rudiger was making his first outing of the campaign at Molineux after a serious knee injury ruled the former AS Roma star out of action in April, and may now be unavailable for Lampard’s consideration against Valencia after he missed training on Monday, according to The Athletic’s Simon Johnson.

The 26-year-old, who helped Chelsea win the FA Cup in 2018, sustained the groin injury when he slid off the field and onto the metal surrounding the pitch at Molineux, which forced Rudiger to adjust himself.

Rudiger lined up on the right of a three-man backline at Molineux, and completed his only attempted tackle, recorded two clearances, completed 84% of his 38 passes and spent the joint-second-most time in possession of any Chelsea player as Lampard’s side saw out the first half holding a 3-0 lead, per data collected by WhoScored.

Kurt Zouma replaced Rudiger on Saturday after the Frenchman fell to the bench from the side that drew with Sheffield United prior to the international break.
