Chelsea: Hakim Ziyech set to join PSG

Chelsea: Hakim Ziyech set to join PSG - Chelsea News

Chelsea star Hakim Ziyech is set to join Paris Saint-Germain, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Ziyech on the move

Ziyech joined the Blues in 2020 in a £33.3m deal from Ajax (via Sky Sports) after starring in the Dutch giants’ Champions League run to the semi-finals in the 2018/19 season, where he scored 21 goals and registered 24 assists across all competitions.

However, he’s failed to show form anything like that since arriving in the Premier League, as the best Chelsea fans have seen has been glimpses of quality, with just 25 goal involvements coming in 98 games for the west Londoners.

He’s featured as a bit-part player this campaign, making just six starts all season, leading Simon Phillips to question his future at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.

The Latest: Romano’s update

It now seems as though his time in England is set to come to an end, with Romano revealing on his YouTube channel that Ziyech is on the verge of joining Ligue 1 champions PSG, saying:

“Keep an eye also on the outgoings because Hakim Ziyech for Chelsea is one of the potential outgoings. The player is in France to complete his move to Paris Saint-Germain.

“The two clubs are still speaking about the formula of the deal – loan with buy option or straight loan – so there are still conversations ongoing. Keep an eye on Hakim Ziyech.”

Should Chelsea sell Ziyech?

The Verdict: Right move?

Ziyech is set to join an illustrious list of forwards in Paris as an interesting alternative to the famous front three of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar. With the Parisians only three points clear at the top of Ligue 1, he could potentially add that extra quality to see them over the line.

He’ll leave behind Chelsea, who have certainly been the team of the window, with them splashing £213.7m so far in January at the time of writing (via as the Blues also close in on a potential British-record transfer fee of £105.6m for Enzo Fernandez (via BBC).

Therefore, amid all that spending, there had to be players cut to make room, and it seems that Ziyech was one of the most expendable due to his lack of regular minutes under Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter this season.
