Chelsea: Blues set for ‘fresh offer’ to sign Moises Caicedo

Chelsea: Blues set for 'fresh offer' to sign Moises Caicedo - Chelsea News

Chelsea are set for a ‘fresh offer’ to sign Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo this January, according to reports.

The Lowdown: Potter set for transfer backing…

The Premier League giants have spent a total of £156m on six major signings this month, putting pen to paper on deals for Mykhalo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, Joao Felix, Noni Madueke, David Datro Fofana and Andrey Santos (Transfermarkt).

Backed by American businessman Todd Boehly, the Stamford Bridge giants have seriously attacked both this transfer window and last summer’s as manager Graham Potter receives major backing, with more than £400m spent since the end of the 2021/22 season.

The Blues are reliably believed to be chasing the addition of a defensive midfielder, leading them to look at the likes of Declan Rice among others. Caicedo, who has played a starring role for Brighton this season, is another to have been namechecked as a target for Chelsea.

The Latest: Chelsea set for ‘fresh offer’ to sign Caicedo…

According to a report by The Mirror, it is believed that the west Londoners are set for a ‘fresh offer’ to sign the Ecuador international this month.

Indeed, Chelsea are apparently ready to increase their bid for Caicedo to a figure in and around Brighton’s £65m valuation. This comes after the Blues’ original proposal of £55m was swiftly turned down by the Seagulls.

The Verdict: Get it done…

The 21-year-old has quickly cemented himself as one of the Premier League’s rising stars, with the likes of Liverpool also interested in his services.

As per WhoScored, Caicedo is a very well-rounded defensive midfielder who has made more successful tackles per 90 than anyone in Roberto De Zerbi’s squad. Also ranking in Brighton’s top two for interceptions per game, the South American is indispensable at the Amex Stadium, having started 18 top-flight matches and featuring in the Seagulls’ top five for most minutes played.

Going forward, the composed Ecuadorian has averaged an impressive 88.2% passing accuracy in midfield, registering a goal and an assist whilst posting Brighton’s joint-fourth highest rate of key passes per 90 (WhoScored).

The 21-year-old has also previously described Stamford Bridge as a ‘dream’ move when talking about Potter’s departure to London four months ago.

Called a ‘big player‘ by De Zerbi, it seems clear that Caicedo could greatly strengthen Chelsea’s options, and this latest update suggests that a reunion with Potter in SW6 could be on the cards.
