Chelsea are just one signing away from rounding off an ideal summer transfer window.
The Blues have already splashed a major amount of cash in their mission to transform their current squad. Marquee signings Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Ben Chilwell are among their standout business deals so far.
Chelsea have another month to finalise their spendings and prepare for the season ahead with a sparkling new squad – all that’s left on Frank Lampard’s shopping list is a goalkeeper.
The Stamford Bridge legend seems to have washed his hands of Kepa Arrizabalaga, who had disappointing 2019/20 season. The Spaniard conceded an alarming 47 league goals, with Chelsea leaking the most of any club in the Premier League top 10.
With only Willy Caballero to potentially step in, Chelsea are eager to bring in a new name between the sticks.
Could Chelsea win the Premier League this season?
After Jan Oblak proved to have too high of an asking price, the west Londoners have shifted their attention to Edouard Mendy.
According to The Athletic (via Daily Express), the Senegal international is set to join Chelsea over the next few days. Once the moves come to fruition, the report has claimed that it will take the club’s spending to more than £250m for this transfer window.
Chelsea have spent a combined £200.88m on their six signings so far, even with Thiago Silva and Malang Sarr joining as free agents. This would mean that Mendy will cost the Blues just under £50m at the very least if their total outgoings are to rise above the £250m mark.
Chelsea could perhaps have another name on the cards alongside Mendy as a report from TuttoMercatoWeb claimed that an offer of €25m (£22.4m) appears to have pleased Rennes (via Sport Witness).
