Chelsea: West Ham slap hefty £80million price tag on Declan Rice - Chelsea

Chelsea are firmly in the running to sign West Ham’s Declan Rice, but they may have been dealt a blow in their pursuit.

The two London clubs have been linked by Frank Lampard’s desire to bring the versatile defender to Stamford Bridge. However, there’s been a lot of speculation recently over how much the Blues will need to fork out in order to make a deal happen.

Chelsea were hoping the Irons would accept a swap deal, with Football Insider reporting that Fikayo Tomori, Kurt Zouma and Michy Batshuayi had all been made available for a potential player-plus-cash transaction.

All has been revealed now as The Mirror has confirmed West Ham are only looking for cash in exchange for Rice and have slapped a hefty £80million price tag on his head.

Despite the fact Roman Abramovich is willing to splash as much as £300million this summer, the size of Rice’s fee may raise some questions amongst the Chelsea board.

Gerrard made more appearances for Liverpool than Lampard did for Chelsea, true or false?

It will definitely command an intense talk as Lampard is hoping to strengthen his defence ahead of next season. The 21-year-old will be able to provide options across both the backline and in midfield. He would also link up with fellow midfielder and best friend Mason Mount, which may boost chemistry in the squad.

Whether the West Londoners opt to sign Rice or not, it will certainly be an exciting 2020/21 season as they have already welcomed new recruits Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner through the door.
