Sunderland, Aston Villa and Bournemouth are all interested in signing Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic this summer according to the Times. Petrovic impressed during his loan spell with French club Strasbourg last season, but returned to Chelsea this summer on the fringes of the first team.

He was not included in the squad that traveled to the United States for this summer’s Club World Cup, and is expected to depart the club during this transfer window.

The 25 year old Serb is one of four goalkeepers on the books at Chelsea, after fellow loanee Mike Pender returned to the club this summer to join senior keepers Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen. At least one keeper will be allowed to leave and Petrovic looks the most likely after his impressive performances in Ligue 1 last season.

He is not short of suitors, with a host of clubs in the Premier League and across Europe all expressing interest.

Petrovic attracting Premier League interest

Bournemouth are in the market for a keeper to replace Kepa Arrizabalaga who returned to Chelsea after a season-long loan and has now signed for Arsenal. Petrovic is understood to be at the top of their list.

Newly promoted Sunderland have contacted Chelsea about Petrovic as they prepare for their long awaited Premier League return. The Black Cats are yet to make a formal bid but remain in discussion.

Aston Villa are monitoring the keeper’s situation as well amid uncertainty about the future of their No1 Emiliano Martínez who is wanted by Manchester United.

Chelsea themselves could be set to reshuffle their goalkeeper department, after a series of high profile errors from usual starter Robert Sanchez. Sanchez is drawing interest from West Ham, while Chelsea have had a £12.7million offer turned down by AC Milan for their No1 Mike Maignan last month.

At this moment they are not expected to return with a new bid unless Milan lower their asking price, but the club is understood to be open to adding a new shot stopper and selling one or two of their own.
