Tottenham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are frustrated to hear in Metro that their club nearly made a last ditch effort to sign Andre Schurrle before he moved to Wolfsburg.
The World Cup winner had to depart Stamford Bridge to make way for Chelsea’s new boy Juan Cuadrado who arrived from Fiorentina.
Spurs were aware of this and questioned the possibility of signing Schurrle but Chelsea slapped down a £30 million price tag for their London rivals.
This put off the North London outfit and what really is a kick in the teeth for Tottenham fans in the tavern is that he moved to the Bundesliga for the lesser fee of £24.1 million.
But punters can understand why the Premier League leaders upped the asking price for their rivals.
Despite this, Tottenham still had a pretty successful deadline day after they snapped up MK Dons wonderkid Dele Alli, billed in some quarters as the ‘new Steven Gerrard’.
Tottenham fans. At the end of the January transfer window, were you gutted that you didn’t replace the outgoing Aaron Lennon with anyone? Let us know your thoughts below.
