Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are debating whether the right call has been made concerning the future of an out-of-favour player within their ranks.
The Telegraph states Antonio Conte’s side will not approve a sale of Asmir Begovic to Bournemouth until the Blues line-up a replacement for their second-choice goalkeeper.
Chelsea have already rejected a £10m offer from the Cherries but boss Conte suggested recently that the experienced stopper could leave before the close of the transfer window – with Chelsea sympathetic to the Bosnian international’s desire for first-team football.
However, Chelsea are not prepared to discuss a deal until they identify the ideal replacement for Begovic, who can move to Stamford Bridge as understudy for Thibaut Courtois – and potentially become first-choice, if the Belgian seals a move to Real Madrid.
Whilst Chelsea are open to a sale, they’re also content with keeping Begovic until the end of the season but the backroom staff are identifying potential recruits.
Our landlord believes Chelsea’s stance is fair but hopes a deal can be reached, as he feels Begovic is far too good to be sat on the bench every week.
A number of Chelsea supporters by the bar here in the Transfer Tavern feel it makes sense for Begovic to depart Stamford Bridge, with them all agreeing his too good of a keeper to be languishing on the bench, especially as he reaches the latter stages of his career.
Will Begovic still be a Chelsea player at the end of the window? Let us know in the comments below!
