Chelsea are beginning to get into a rut and it’s making our resident Blues fans pretty anxious here in the Transfer Tavern…
The London side started this season fairly well. They were unbeaten in their first four games and looked like they could be title challengers once more after the aberration that was their 2015/16 campaign.
The last two games, however, have shown they may be a bit far off winning the title this season. At home to Liverpool they were overwhelmed by the Reds pressing and succumbed to a 2-1 defeat before going to Arsenal and losing handsomely 3-0, in a game that suggested Antonio Conte has got quite the job on his hands.
The squad is decent but it seems to lack fighters at the moment. Players who are going to roll their sleeves up when the going gets tough are hard to come by – and Chelsea need some desperately.
They need some real stars too and so here in the Transfer Tavern our landlord reckons it’s time to go for some familiar faces and sign these three…
Daniel Sturridge
Sturridge doesn’t look like he’s going to play all that often for Liverpool this season, with Roberto Firmino seemingly in Jurgen Klopp’s favour.
With his talent, though, he should be playing week in week out as a striker and he would certainly give Chelsea that extra firepower they need at the moment.
Diego Costa is class but he needs help up there and Sturridge would be perfect.
Kevin De Bruyne
One of Jose Mourinho’s biggest ever mistakes was to let this guy go from the Bridge because he is world-class and would walk into Chelsea’s first team.
Whether City would let him go is highly unlikely but for a club like Chelsea – they need to start proving they can still cut it at the top, and the Belgian would undoubtedly ensure that they do this.

Petr Cech
Another mistake on Mourinho’s behalf.
Whilst Thibaut Courtois is getting on the wick of the Chelsea fans with his below par displays, Cech is still as good as he ever was – on the other side London.
He may not have played much behind the Belgian under Mourinho, but you cannot doubt that if he was at the club now – he’d walk straight back into the team.
