Chelsea’s squad has gone through some major changes over the last few years. With key men like John Terry, Didier Drogba and, more recently, Diego Costa all leaving the club in search of other pastures.
Fortunately, that has often been followed by the recruitment of a few brilliant replacements, with the likes of Antonio Rudiger coming in to effectively replace John Terry and Diego Costa himself replacing Didier Drogba.
Naturally, though, especially at the highest level, changes are going to be a regular occurrence, and that’s no different this summer.
Chelsea attacker Willian has been linked with a move away, whilst Man Utd man Anthony Martial has been linked with a move to Chelsea. Throw in another new face or two and the Blues will quickly have a new-look attack.
But what may Chelsea’s dream attack look like? Maurizio Sarri will have some big decisions to make…
Callum Hudson-Odoi looks like he means business.
He’s impressed during pre-season so far, and he was dominant for the academy last season too.
In truth, despite being just 17-years-old, he looks more than ready to turn out on a weekly basis at Stamford Bridge.
Playing in a team like this, he’ll be able to learn so much. Offering fantastic pace and technique, he’s a top talent, and if given a chance, he’d make this left-wing his own in no time.
In the middle, Eden Hazard should keep his place – provided Chelsea can hold on to him.
He’s one of the few players in this squad that the club simply cannot afford to lose. Everything goes through him, and he’s one of Europe’s best.
Under Sarri, he’s likely to get even better, with the Italian placing far more emphasis on the attacking side of the game.
The Belgian is unstoppable on his day.
Though naturally a left-sided player, he’d be able to get on the ball more through the middle – and so it makes sense to trial him in the role.
Anthony Martial is more of a regular on the left, but given time, he’d be able to adapt to a role on the right, you’d expect.
What he needs is an opportunity, and he just hasn’t had enough of one over the last few years.
With Willian linked away, there could be a huge gap in the squad – and he’s more than capable of taking over.
Like Hazard, he’s a player that can do anything on his day.
Alvaro Morata had a tough season last year, but he deserves another chance.
The Spaniard was lethal in both Spain and Italy, and it doesn’t make sense for the Blues to move him on so quickly.
He’s got more technical ability than any other recent forward at Stamford Bridge, and so in a new style under Sarri, he could thrive.
The pressure will be off somewhat with all of this quality behind him.
