Leeds United supporters in the Transfer Tavern were left drowning their sorrows on Tuesday night after seeing the Yorkshire giants lose 3-1 away at Leicester City to exit the Carabao Cup at the fourth round stage.
Thomas Christiansen’s men had got past Port Vale, Newport County, and Burnley to reach the last 16, and looked set to continue their excellent cup run when Pablo Hernandez fired them into the lead at the King Power Stadium after just 26 minutes. However, the Premier League outfit hit back and asserted their dominance with goals from Kelechi Iheanacho, Islam Slimani, and Riyad Mahrez sealing their passage through to the quarter-finals of a competition they last won in 2000.
For Leeds though, their dream of adding a second League Cup to their list of honours will have to wait for another year, although attentions will quickly turn back to their Championship campaign and a potentially tricky clash with high-flying Sheffield United on Friday night, with the Blades sitting a place and four points above Christiansen’s men in the division.
And although things didn’t quite work out for the Whites in the Midlands on Tuesday, one man’s display did receive recognition from several of our resident Leeds supporters, namely that of goal-scorer Hernandez.
The 32-year-old netted his second goal of the season at Leicester with a spectacular 20-yard strike, and throughout he looked like the one that was going to make something happen for the visitors at the King Power Stadium.
And many Leeds fans took to Twitter to heap praise on the Spaniard for his fine performance on Tuesday night…
Brilliant to watch Pablo Hernandez when he’s on it #lufc

That Pablo Hernandez goal was delightful #lufc

I enjoyed that game more than I expected to actually. The intensity was really there at times tonight, hunting in packs and passing forwards, bit of creativity from a standout Hernandez made a real difference. Bit of all that on Friday and it’ll be a feisty one! #lufc

Played well 1st half, got tired 2nd half and their few players of quality made the difference. Hernandez was a stand out performance #LUFC
