It was Leeds United supporters who were making all the noise in the Transfer Tavern over the weekend after another stellar performance from their side.
The Yorkshire giants picked up a fourth Championship victory over the season on Saturday courtesy of a 5-0 thrashing of Burton Albion, a result which takes Thomas Christiansen’s men into the automatic promotion places at this early stage of the campaign.
And, based on recent reports from Sunday’s print edition of the The Sun on Sunday (via The Daily Star), Whites supporters may well be returning to line the bar in January to toast a new signing, as their side have reportedly expressed an interest in Orlando City striker Cyle Larin.
The 22-year-old moved to the Major League Soccer outfit back in 2015 and has since gone from strength to strength with the Florida-based club, having netted 43 goals in just 85 games for the side, 42 goals of which have come in the league.
And the Canada international is again embarking on another prolific campaign with 11 goals in 24 MLS matches for Orlando, which included the opener in their 2-1 victory at DC United on Sunday, a result which moved them up to ninth place in the Eastern Conference table.
And his fine form for the club appears to have attracted interest from Christiansen and the Leeds hierarchy, who are reportedly keeping tabs on the 22-year-old ahead of a possible move when the transfer window reopens in January.
The Yorkshire club were busy in the transfer market over the summer but did see star striker Chris Wood leave for Burnley, thus leaving them slightly short in the attacking ranks ahead of their likely promotion push.
Yet bringing in the highly-rated Larin in January is likely to thrill those Leeds fans in the Tavern, as their club look to end their long wait for Premier League football by achieving promotion next May.
Landlord’s verdict: Chris Wood was hugely influential in Leeds United’s rise to seventh place in the Championship last season, bagging 27 goals to finish as the league’s top-scorer.
Yet his departure to Burnley hasn’t as of yet derailed the Whites’ promotion challenge, and a 5-0 thumping of Burton Albion last weekend appears to indicate that life after Wood can be just as good or if not better than before.
Nonetheless, new head coach Thomas Christiansen will surely be wary of their demise near the end of last season, so it’s hardly much of a surprise to see them linked with striking reinforcements in the form of Cyle Larin, a highly-rated striker who could bag the goals necessary to take Leeds back to the top-flight.
