Liverpool’s attacking options are beginning to look surprisingly light on experience and depth heading into the new season.
Alexander Isak is back fit after a difficult first campaign, but Hugo Ekitike remains sidelined for the foreseeable future. Mohamed Salah has also departed for Trabzonspor, while the remaining options include youngster Víctor Muñoz, Federico Chiesa and Cody Gakpo.
That leaves Liverpool with another decision to make, and one of their established forwards now appears increasingly likely to head for the exit.
Gakpo Agrees to Join Tottenham
Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement in principle with Cody Gakpo, putting the Dutch forward on course to become the second Liverpool player to move to north London this summer.
Spurs already secured the signing of veteran defender Andy Robertson on a free transfer, and they could now return to Anfield for another experienced addition.
Reports from Dutch journalist Joost Blaauwhof claim that all parties consider a Gakpo move to Tottenham “very realistic”, with Voetbal International also reporting that an agreement in principle has been reached.
The proposed deal is understood to be worth around £60 million for the 27-year-old, who joined Liverpool from PSV Eindhoven in January 2023.
Gakpo has made a significant contribution during his Liverpool career, scoring 50 goals in 180 appearances for the club. However, his departure would leave Arne Slot needing another attacking option, particularly with Liverpool still pursuing Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola.
Former Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp previously described Gakpo as a “massively interesting” player, highlighting the qualities that have made him such an important part of the Reds’ squad.
For Tottenham, meanwhile, the proposed move would represent another major attacking statement as they continue reshaping their squad.
