We are all just as bemused as Chelsea fans in the Football Transfer Tavern over the ongoing contract saga’s with Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole, and Dave Kidd of the Daily Mirror believes the latter is set for a move to Premier League rivals Manchester United.
Cole is out of contract at Stamford Bridge in the summer, and has been told he can leave the club on a free transfer. This has alerted a host of top clubs, including European giants Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain.
But Cole is reported to not fancy the move abroad, and Manchester United are in the pole position to sign the former Arsenal man in the summer.
Sir Alex Ferguson is in the market for a left back, and has been a long-term admirer of Everton’s Leighton Baines but with the Merseyside club placing a heavy price tag on the player, Sir Alex may opt for the free transfer option and make a move for Cole instead
Baines, 28 has also been linked with Arsenal and Chelsea.
The Red Devils currently possess Patrice Evra and Alexander Buttner for the left back berth but a move for Cole would further boost their options, with the England international still deemed by many as one of the best in that position in world football.
