The former Burnley forward has suffered an injury-ridden spell at Anfield, with fitness issues plaguing his tenure so far. Indeed, he’s spent more time at Liverpool on the shelf than he has off it, and that’s a major problem.
There was, though, a sense of optimism around the Transfer Tavern last week, with the Englishman seemingly returning to fitness, with a role for Liverpool under-23 side on the cards.
However, whilst Ings featured in that game, it was not without its fair share of problems. Indeed, the forward was forced off prematurely in what has been described by the Sun as a ‘blow’ for the Englishman.
The true extent of the injury remains to be seen, but you always have to air on the side of caution when Ings is involved.
The Reds have since moved to play down his early departure, but this is still a worry for Liverpool. Even a precautionary issue is worrisome.
Ings’ injury record is well documented, and even the smallest prospect of an injury does give cause for real concern at Anfield. Particularly given that he has only just returned from a long-term layoff, it’s clear that something isn’t quite right here.
Still, the fans in the Transfer Tavern are hopeful of a positive outcome.
Landlord’s Verdict
It’s unlikely that the injury will be a long-term one, but it will serve as a painful reminder for the Liverpool brass that they must be careful with Ings.
He has really struggled at Liverpool so far, and it’s clear that his return is still some way off happening.
