Though the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern were delighted with their side’s win over the weekend, they’re still hoping for a few players to come in before January comes to an end.
The Reds have already brought in Virgil van Dijk, but with Philippe Coutinho leaving the club, there is an expectation that Jurgen Klopp will be given further funds to improve his squad.
With under two weeks to go until the window slams shut, the Merseyside-based club are slowly running out of time to make their moves, but there is a chance that another defender could yet come to Anfield.
He’s apparently rated at €30 million (£26.4 million) by Roma, according to Calcio Mercato, and so he’d require considerable investment from the Reds – though the fee would be considerably less than the £75 million that Liverpool spent on defender Virgil van Dijk already this month. They certainly aren’t afraid to splash the cash to improve their defence, so the price-tag may not put them off.
Having recently recovered from a long-term injury, Emerson has had a slow first half of the season, but he appears to be getting back to his best at present, and he’s clearly a man in demand – as Calcio Mercato’s report highlights.
Landlord’s Verdict
Typically a left back, Palmieri offers solid defending and excellent attacking, and so a few months ago, he would have been a perfect target for Liverpool.
However, the recent emergence of Andy Robertson would make this deal a strange one for them to secure, with the Scotsman impressing at the back recently.
Certainly, if Alberto Moreno were to leave, Emerson would be a fantastic replacement, but that doesn’t look to be on the cards this month.
That being said, Palmieri is a top player, and so Klopp clearly has a plan if Liverpool are able to sign him.
