Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that Antonio Conte can add to the squad before the window shuts on Wednesday.
Chelsea have been treated to a new signing in this window in the shape of Ross Barkley and are hoping more come in to join him. Indeed, the midfielder came to Stamford Bridge early on in the window, however, since then the Blues have been linked with some very out of the box targets, as they bid to bring in a backup striker to Alvaro Morata.
The boys in the back room are hoping that the Chelsea faithful see at least two more new faces incoming through the Stamford Bridge door before February 1st as Chelsea aim to run Man City as close as they can for their title and look to add some silverware to the cabinet in Conte’s second season.
Our landlord takes a look at what exactly the board need to bring to the club in order to have a successful second half of the season…
Back up for Marcus Alonso

The ever-present left wing back is in much need of a rest, and Conte should be looking far and wide for a quality back up to challenge for the number one spot. Chelsea have been linked with Roma’s Emerson Palmieri and this could prove to be a shrewd move for the Italian.
If the board can get this one over the line, Conte should be happy with the reinforcements according to our regulars in the bar, however, they still think the Blues need to strengthen in one more area.
A Backup Striker

This should be high on the list of January priorities for Conte. Alvaro Morata, just before Christmas, missed a few games down to pure exhaustion as he gets used to life as a first choice central striker. His replacement Michy Batshuayi just isn’t up to the level that’s needed in the Premier League, despite his popularity amongst the support.
Chelsea have been linked with a wide variety of strikers from all over Europe, with a lot of the names being a little unorthodox with what Chelsea usually get linked too.
