Coventry City are wasting no time preparing for life back in the Premier League after securing promotion in impressive fashion last season.
Frank Lampard’s side won the Championship title despite a slight late-season wobble, and attention has quickly turned to strengthening the squad to ensure they are not immediately dragged into a relegation battle.
The Sky Blues are already active in the market and have now made a major statement as they look to build on their promotion success.
Coventry Submit Rushworth Bid
According to talkSPORT, Coventry City have submitted a club-record £20 million bid for Brighton goalkeeper Carl Rushworth, with the Premier League club now considering the offer.
The 24-year-old spent last season on loan at Coventry, playing a key role in their title-winning campaign. He featured in every league match under Lampard, conceding just 45 goals and keeping 17 clean sheets as the Sky Blues secured top spot.
Rushworth, 24, has since returned to Brighton following the end of his loan spell, but Coventry have moved quickly to try and bring him back permanently.
Should the deal go through, it would comfortably become the most expensive signing in the club’s history.
Rushworth, who has just one year remaining on his contract, has also been monitored by England set-up coaches in recent seasons and is highly rated within the game.
Lampard has already added Frank Onyeka ahead of the 2026/27 campaign and is keen to keep hold of key promotion figures as he strengthens for the step up.
Former Brighton goalkeeping coach Jack Stern has previously praised Rushworth’s development, describing him as a player with “huge potential” and suggesting he could still become a long-term first-choice option at the Amex.
