“Talented” Bundesliga defender set for medical ahead of Coventry City transfer

Share

Coventry City are preparing for life back in the Premier League after securing promotion in style last season.

The Sky Blues stormed to the Championship title despite a late wobble and will now need to strengthen significantly if Frank Lampard’s side are to avoid an immediate return to the second tier.

Coventry have already begun their summer business by making Frank Onyeka’s loan move from Brentford permanent, and another major arrival now appears to be close.

Aurèle Amenda Set for Coventry Medical

Eintracht Frankfurt defender Aurèle Amenda is set to complete a move to Coventry City, with only a medical standing between the 20-year-old and a switch to the Premier League newcomers.

According to BILD, per Sports Witness, Coventry have agreed a deal worth around €20 million (£17m), including bonuses, which would make Amenda the most expensive signing in the club’s history.

The Switzerland international is currently at the World Cup, meaning his medical has been delayed, but the move is already considered close to completion.

Amenda, who has been described as “talented” by German football expert Constantin Eckner, has impressed with his composure, physical presence and ability to read the game.

The centre-back joined Frankfurt from Young Boys in 2024 for around €9.5m and has since developed into one of the Bundesliga side’s most promising defensive prospects.

The deal represents a huge profit for Frankfurt, while Coventry will hope the Swiss defender can become a key figure in their attempt to establish themselves in the Premier League.
