Chelsea sense opportunity to sign “technically outstanding” Bayern Munich prospect as transfer door opens

Chelsea continue to search for promising young talent as they look to build a squad capable of competing at the highest level for years to come.

The Blues have regularly invested in emerging players, and their recruitment strategy could present another opportunity in the market.

A highly rated teenager at one of Europe’s biggest clubs is now facing uncertainty over his future, potentially giving Chelsea the chance to secure a deal without paying a significant transfer fee.

Chelsea Target Bayern Munich Youngster Leonard Prescott

According to Sky Deutschland, Chelsea believe they could have an opportunity to sign Bayern Munich goalkeeper Leonard Prescott, with negotiations over a new contract reportedly failing to make progress.

The 17-year-old – described as “technically outstanding” by Bayern youth coach Peter Gaydarov – is approaching a crucial stage in his development, but his long-term prospects at Bayern have become less certain. Prescott is understood to have concerns about his route into the first team, with the German giants planning for Jonas Urbig to eventually succeed veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer.

Prescott joined Bayern’s academy from Union Berlin in 2023 and has since progressed through the club’s youth setup. He featured for their Under-19 side before being promoted to the reserve team, although he has yet to make his senior debut.

His contract situation has attracted attention from several clubs, with Chelsea and Juventus among those monitoring developments. A number of Bundesliga sides are also reportedly keeping track of the goalkeeper’s circumstances.

With his current deal approaching its expiry in 2027, Chelsea could look to take advantage if discussions over an extension remain at a standstill. The possibility of signing him as a free agent next summer could make the teenager an appealing long-term investment.

However, Prescott would not be able to move to England immediately, with reports indicating that he would need to wait until he turns 18 next September before joining Chelsea. Any agreement could therefore require careful planning, potentially including a loan spell to support his development.

Chelsea already have established goalkeeping options, but the club’s interest would reflect their continued focus on recruiting young players with long-term potential.

Bayern may yet persuade Prescott to commit his future to Munich, but the stalled contract talks have created an opening for interested clubs. Chelsea will be hoping they can turn that uncertainty into a transfer opportunity.
