Hull City have made an encouraging return to the Premier League after spending nine years away from the top flight, giving supporters plenty of reasons to be optimistic about their prospects this season.
The Tigers secured promotion through the Championship play-offs last term and have carried that momentum into the new campaign, picking up eight points from their opening five matches.
Sergej Jakirovic’s side have already produced some impressive results, including a memorable victory over Manchester United, and will be determined to establish themselves in the division.
However, Hull are not simply focused on the immediate challenge of staying in the Premier League. The club are also looking to strengthen their squad for the future, with a highly rated young goalkeeper emerging as a potential January addition.
Hull City Lead Race to Sign Deniz Dönmezer
According to TEAMtalk, Hull City are the frontrunners to sign Turkish goalkeeper Deniz Dönmezer, with negotiations ongoing over a potential January transfer from Kayserispor.
The 18-year-old has attracted attention from several prominent clubs following his rapid rise in Turkish football, but Hull are reportedly pushing hardest to secure his signature.
A deal worth approximately £1.5 million is being discussed, alongside a 10 per cent sell-on clause for Kayserispor. Dönmezer is also understood to have a four-and-a-half-year contract on the table, with the option of an additional 12 months.
However, an agreement has not yet been finalised, and discussions between the clubs remain ongoing. One possibility is for the goalkeeper to remain in Turkey until the end of the season, allowing appearance-related bonuses to be triggered before he moves to England.
Dönmezer first made headlines at Adana Demirspor, becoming the youngest goalkeeper to feature in the Turkish Süper Lig in May 2024. He subsequently established himself as a regular, making more than 20 top-flight appearances before joining Kayserispor in September 2025.
His potential has attracted considerable interest. Turkish giants Fenerbahçe, Galatasaray, Beşiktaş and Trabzonspor have previously monitored his development, while Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham have also reportedly sent scouts to watch him. Ajax and Liverpool have been linked with the youngster too.
For Hull, the proposed transfer would represent a relatively low-cost investment in a player with considerable room to develop. Although the teenager has largely been a reserve at Kayserispor this season, his earlier performances suggest he has the potential to progress further.
With talks continuing, Hull appear well placed to win the race, although there is still work to do before a deal can be confirmed.
