It’s been a fairly miserable start to the Premier League campaign for the Crystal Palace fans in the Transfer Tavern.
Indeed, while the summer began with such optimism as Frank De Boer moved to Selhurst Park, the Eagles have had their wings clipped since his appointment.
Having lost all three games, the Dutchman’s job security had been called into question over the weekend, so reports from the Daily Mirror have barely come as a surprise.
They claim the south London club are lining up a move to bring Sam Allardyce back to the club, despite his retirement after keeping Palace up back in May.
Club chiefs are said to be deeply concerned by proceedings both on and off the pitch and Big Sam is understood to be one of a number of names under consideration should the former Ajax man depart.
He, along with Roy Hodgson and Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic are all believed to be in the running as a contingency plan, with the punters clad in blue and red in our bar hoping the Dutchman finds his feet.
While things aren’t going well right now, our locals believe he can push the club forward, rather than taking a step back.
Landlord’s Verdict:
If Palace do want to make serious progress, trying to get Allardyce out of retirement may not be the best move.
De Boer is trying to change the culture at the club and that takes time, so he should be given it.
