Crystal Palace fans are crying that Andros Townsend has been “robbed” after his wonder strike versus Manchester City was not shortlisted for the final three of the Puskas Award.
Townsend’s Christmas cracker (December 22) from 30-yards was enough to help Palace win the game 3-2, but it wasn’t enough to get him on the final shortlist. That game is still the last time Manchester City lost a competitive game at home.
The goals were narrowed down to just three with Lionel Messi, Juan Quintero and Daniel Zsori the last goalscorers standing.
The shortlist was previously at 10 with Matheus Cunha, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ajara Nchout, Fabio Quagliarella and Billie Simpson all being nominated.
Townsend tweeted after it was announced that he had not made the final three saying: “We had a good run… thanks to all those that voted”.
The response from many Palace fans has been pretty one-sided and simple. Here are some of the best of them below…

This award has turned into a joke. Messi will undoubtedly win it with a goal not even half as good as Townsends
