A lot of Crystal Palace fans are discussing David Tuttle, after a fan posted on Twitter opening up a debate on the former player.
The defender played for the Eagles from 1996 to 1999, per Soccerbase, and even though he doesn’t get spoken about much today, he clearly left a lot of fond memories with the club as many fans of the South London side declared him a hero when discussing him.
Over the course of his 89 appearances, he managed to pop up with five goals, but the most noticeable highlight from his career was the fact that he was part of the famous squad that gained promotion in the 1996/97 campaign, via rednbluearmy.
In that season the club finished sixth and advanced to the play-offs. In the final, the winning goal by David Hopkin for Palace caused the commentator to say ‘Hopkin, looking to curl one’ and this line has become iconic in the Eagles’ history, via Crystal Palace.
This play-off final is clearly remembered well by fans as one called Tuttle a ‘promotion hero’.
Here is what Palace fans had to say following the tweet:

HERO
I was there when he started throwing his kit into the crowd but then refused to throw his shirt in ! Great player in the promotion squad but again another player not PL ready.
The fans liked him, gave his best, part of the side who won promotion. This makes him a hero.

Hero – Full Monty was his best performance. Good pro, Champ level but never let you down

Key part of the side that got us promoted, grafted hard & always tried his best. In between doesn’t do him justice. Through effort alone an unsung hero!

Tutts was part of the team/squad when we went up via the play offs and was a good defender for us. Hero for me 👍🏽
