After another dominant performance by Crystal Palace fan-favourite Vicente Guaita on the weekend, fans of the Eagles are discussing whether the goalkeeper deserves a call up to the Spanish national team at the European Championships this summer.
The goalkeeper has made many crucial saves since he joined the South London club on a free transfer last summer from Spanish side Getafe and has left fans wondering where Palace would be in the league without him. Guaita has kept 16 clean sheets in the Premier League in 51 appearances and featured in Alan Shearer’s team of the week after the weekends 1-0 victory against Brighton.
The first and second choice goalkeepers for Spain are Kepa Arrizabalaga and David De Gea, and both have received a lot of criticism in the league this season. Kepa has been dropped by Frank Lampard whilst David De Gea has come under scrutiny for his mistake on the weekend against Everton and has kept only 14 clean sheets in the Premier League since the start of last season.
