Crystal Palace: Fans fume at Cheikhou Kouyate

Kouyaté

Many Crystal Palace fans are fuming with the performance of Cheikhou Kouyate in the Premier League match against Fulham on Sunday.

With the Eagles winning against Brighton on Monday, there was not as much pressure on the match at Selhurst Park due to them being on 32 points before kick-off.

Fulham on the other hand are in a huge relegation battle, but with results going their way this weekend, (SofaScore) the match against Roy Hodgson’s side was the perfect opportunity to be the closest to safety that they have been all season.

The Senegalese international is typically a central defensive midfielder but has been used a central defender this campaign. He has been consistently solid before the match against Fulham, managing 1.4 tackles and 3.7 clearances (WhoScored).

However against Scott Parker’s side, the 31 year-old was a shadow of his normal self, and lost Joachim Anderson on many set-pieces. Kouyate’s contract expires in June 2022, so he will probably be a key asset for the club for a while, but he needs to step up if he wants to keep his place.

Here is how Palace fans reacted to the news:

“Kouyate is NOT a centre back… Pass it on”

“Kouyate has been pretty disappointing so far today as has Ayew. Luka has started well though.”
