Plenty of Crystal Palace fans criticised defender Gary Cahill following his side’s 3-1 defeat against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday.
The 34-year-old has been praised throughout his short spell at Selhurst Park but did not impress on Merseyside after being at fault for the Toffees’ second goal. Goals for Bernard, Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin put the nail in Palace’s miserable afternoon, with Christian Benteke scoring what turned out to be a consolation goal.
Cahill has certainly had better days at the office and found himself on the wrong side of his individual battles. He won just one ground duel out of six attempted, won just five headers out of 11, committed four fouls and did not make a single interception or tackle during the 90 minutes, as per Sofascore. Supporters were livid with Cahill’s outing and made their feelings clear on social media.

Defensively disappointing today – usually the focus of criticism is at the other end. Why was Cahill out of position goal 1? Why can’t a player of Cahill’s experience not show Rich. down the line? Why can’t Cahill stay with his man at a corner? Both full backs poor today, Harsh?
