Crystal Palace: Fans get excited as Allan Saint-Maximin is linked

A lot of Crystal Palace fans are hopeful that the latest transfer news surrounding the club being interested in Allan Saint-Maximin is true.

It was reported last night by the Daily Mail that the promising winger’s future was in doubt after he was dropped on the weekend. Indeed, Newcastle manager Steve Bruce claimed he was not fully fit, but news coming out from the Daily Mail states otherwise.

Saint-Maximin has had a good start at St. James’ Park since he joined for £16.2 million (per Transfermarkt) and is already a fan favourite. However, if he is not being played by Bruce, then it’s difficult to see a player of such ability remaining on Tyneside, given their league position.

Like Wilfried Zaha, Maximin is someone who loves to take defenders on and when he does, the crowd immediately gets behind him. As per WhoScored, the Frenchman has actually averaged only slightly fewer dribbles per game than the Eagles star (4.6 to 4.3) and his average is higher than anyone in their squad. So, if Palace are needing another winger or possibly looking at a replacement should Zaha want to leave in the summer, then a player of Saint-Maximin’s calibre could be a good fit.
