Many Crystal Palace fans have responded on Twitter to the news that Christian Benteke has signed a new contract extension at the club – and many have seen the funny side.

Palace’s club account tweeted yesterday that Christian Benteke has signed a one-year extension at the club, meaning that his deal will now end in 2020/21.
Before the new contract, Benteke was set to have his contract expire at the end of the season, which would have seen Palace fail to recuperate a single penny after spending £28m on him (Transfermarkt).
Benteke’s career at Palace has been a mixed one. After a great start, he has struggled massively. In his 98 games for Palace, he has scored 21 times and assisted nine times – not a particularly great record considering he scored 17 goals in his first 40 games.
