Crystal Palace fans have responded on Twitter to news that Mamadou Sakho initiated a meeting between the players to motivate Wilfried Zaha for the upcoming season.
It was reported by The Sun that Sakho called every first team player into a highly-charged meeting on the eve of Crystal Palace’s opener versus Everton.
The meeting was over Zaha’s unsuccessful transfer request, which saw Palace reject offers from both Everton and Arsenal over the window (Sky Sports). The former of the two were to offer Zaha £200,000-per-week according to the initial report from The Sun.
The meeting was started to try and convince Wilfried Zaha to give everything he has to Crystal Palace despite being held against his will. It was suggested that this was a team-only meeting, which meant Roy Hodgson was not aware of it when it happened.
Thankfully for Palace, the gathering of players allegedly has worked for the club, with Zaha apparently now willing to put his differences aside for the time being.
Zaha appeared for the club in a 0-0 draw with Everton on Saturday, in which he came off the bench on the 65th minute.
After the game, Zaha thanked Palace fans on social media. On Twitter he wrote: “Appreciate the support today”, and on Instagram he said: “Appreciate the love today from CPFC family”.
Unsurprisingly, many Palace fans were absolutely delighted with Mamadou Sakho for the rumoured chat with the Eagles’ all-time top Premier League goal scorer.
