Many Crystal Palace fans are debating whether a stat about their away games in the top division is one that shows their quality or one that highlights a bigger problem.
After their victory at the weekend, Palace are now the club with the largest proportion of top-division points gathered away from home, according to the Times. They are above all 65 teams to have played in the top flight of English football.
This stat emphasises the way that Crystal Palace like to play, their counter-attacking tactic is one that works much better when they are away from home, as the teams they play against are pressured by the home support to attack more.
They have gained 872 points in the top flight and 43% of them have been picked up away from home. This looks a very good stat but it also explores a bigger issue and one that the Eagles have struggled a lot with under Roy Hodgson, breaking down teams who come to Selhurst Park.
This season, Palace have been better at home and have already won the same amount of games at Selhurst Park as they did the whole of last season (5), but have only scored 11 goals in South London, something which is worrying supporters of the club. (Sofascore)
Here is what some fans had to say about the statistic on Twitter:
"By winning at the Amex Stadium, the south Londoners became the club with the largest proportion of top-division points gathered away from home among the 65 clubs to have played at the highest level of English football."

It’s actually quite a depressing stat. It means the majority of the Palace fans (the home game attendees) are disappointed more often than any other fanbase.

If we were “better” at home then that wouldn’t be the case. ….
