Crystal Palace: Fans howled at Patrick van Aanholt’s response to online criticism

Lots of Crystal Palace fans enjoyed defender Patrick van Aanholt’s response to criticism he received on social media following his side’s 1-0 win against Brighton on Saturday.

Jordan Ayew scored with 20 minutes to play in the second half, which was greeted with jubilation by the Selhurst Park faithful who returned to south London happy. It also meant that the Eagles ended a seven-year wait for a win at the Amex Stadium, which manager Roy Hodgson was delighted to break, as per BBC Sport.

However, after the game, Van Aanholt, 29, reacted to scrutiny that he was receiving on Twitter (via @pvanaanholt) after his team were accused of not trying to play football. He responded by saying that his side won and secured a clean sheet, which disproved his point. Unsurprisingly, supporters howled with laughter and made their feelings clear towards him on social media. One fan described his tweet as ‘legendary’, while another said that his response was ‘magnificent’ as his side walked away with the bragging rights.
