Crystal Palace fans have been lauding defender James Tomkins after his solid display in the Eagles’ 1-1 draw with Southampton on Saturday.
The 30-year-old scored his side’s only goal of the game and put in an overall strong performance, as his stats suggest.
At the encounter at St. Mary’s, on top of his goal, Tomkins also managed to win seven aerial duels and make 12 clearances (via Crystal Palace’s official Twitter account), making it an all-round good display on the day by the centre-back.
In general, Palace have been pretty solid this season, with Tomkins quite clearly playing his part. They have conceded just 22 Premier League goals so far, which is less than what heavyweights Manchester United, Tottenham and Chelsea have all let in.
Roy Hodgson’s defence will next be tested when they take on Norwich City on New Year’s Day.
