Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to share their sympathy with club-legend goalkeeper Julian Speroni, after the veteran stopper’s error to allow Mohamed Salah to score a crucial third for Liverpool ultimately cost the Eagles at Anfield.
39-year-old Speroni, making his first Premier League start since December 2017, only found himself between the sticks against the league leaders after untimely injuries to both Vicente Guaita and Wayne Hennessey, who both look set to be out for around a month.
Sao Paulo keeper Lucas Perri is (as per Sky Sports) close to signing on loan, but the Brazilian wasn’t signed in time to play, so a visibly rusty Speroni started and looked shaky.
He arguably could’ve done better for the first two goals, but it was the third, in which he tipped a James Milner cross back towards an unguarded net, that eventually saw Palace lose by four goals to three.
However, given his 14 years of service to the club, most Eagles’ supporters were left feeling sympathetic towards the Argentine…

I’ve seen far too much Speroni slander today which is just unacceptable. Not just because he’s a club legend but I tend not to overly criticise GKs in general. Julian Speroni has played a massive part in keeping Palace in the championship when in admin. He’s played a massive part in getting us promoted. He’s played a massive part in keeping us in the Premier League. If he wants to gift Liverpool a goal then I’m not going to stop him
