Loads of Crystal Palace fans have been heaping praise on striker Christian Benteke despite his side’s 3-1 defeat to Everton on Saturday.
The Belgian talisman had gone on a dismal run of 17 games and 765 minutes of Premier League action without scoring (as per BBC Sport), before finding the net against the Toffees with a shot that went underneath shot-stopper Jordan Pickford. That brought the game to 1-1 after Bernard gave the hosts an early lead, but Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin condemned Palace to their 10th defeat of the season.
The 29-year-old has been heavily criticised in recent months after losing the form that made him a recognised striker in his Aston Villa days, with manager Roy Hodgson having to jump to his defence, cited by FourFourTwo. Indeed, his overall performance may well have given off plenty of reassurance that he can continue to contribute right up to the end of the current campaign. As well as score, he made two interceptions, made one tackle and one interception, proving effective with pressing the ball high up the pitch, per WhoScored.
Supporters were happy that Benteke was back on among the goals and made their feelings clear on social media.

Benteke scoring has hopefully given him that confidence boost he needed. Now play Ayew just off him (instead of wasting his ethic and forward thinking on the wing) and bring back Townsend. Then watch Big Ben chime #CPFC
