A lot of Crystal Palace fans are raving over goalkeeper Vicente Guaita after a tweet from OptaJoe showed he is the highest performing goalkeeper in Europe’s top five leagues for goals prevented, based on their Expected Goals on Target data.
Clearly fans are right to be excited about the player with him preventing 9.6 goals, according to OptaJoe, leaving him above Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka, who is ranked second with 8.7. Guaita, per Transfermarkt, also has three clean sheets in his last three games, helping Palace claim nine points and pushing them 11 points clear of the relegation zone.
The Spaniard arrived from La Liga side Getafe in July 2018 on a free transfer, and this statistic highlights how good the signing was.
The goalkeeping position at the club was one that needed filling after club legend Julian Speroni had occupied the position for 16 seasons, via Transfermarkt. And Guaita, undoubtedly, has filled that spot well.
