Crystal Palace fans have responded in droves to the news that Jordan Ayew has won the club’s Player of the Month award.
The Ghanaian international had a fantastic August for the Eagles, with the player grabbing two goals from three appearances so far in the league. Both were significant as Palace beat Manchester United 2-1 at Old Trafford and Aston Villa 1-0 at Selhurst Park.
Over 1,000 fans voted and the 28-year-old won with much conviction – according to the club’s website he had a mammoth 84 per cent of the votes to give him the first Player of the Month award.
Ayew is quickly becoming a popular figure at Selhurst Park after making his loan deal permanent in the summer, despite the player only scoring once last season in his 20 games.
The forward had a message for Palace fans upon receiving the award. He said to the club’s website: “I want to thank them, and everyone at the football club. I am grateful and this is a good thing, but it is just the beginning. It gives me more energy and desire to work harder for this football club.”
Palace fans loved to see Ayew scoop up the award, and one fan even suggested that he could gain club hero status in the future, with a comparison drawn to Julian Speroni who appeared 402 times for Palace.

I get the feeling he could turn into the new Speroni: arrival greeted with a"meh", and went on to become a club hero
