Crystal Palace fans have reacted on Twitter to a reminder from two fan accounts of the big-name players that they have missed out on in recent years.
Popular Crystal Palace fan accounts @HLTCO and @jfCPFC both tweeted about a selection of transfer rumours from years gone by which have linked Palace to some players who have gone on to be big names.
@jfCPFC‘s original tweet showed some examples of near misses for Palace, which included Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson, Real Madrid’s Ferland Mendy and even Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane.
@HLTCO then chipped in with a few more names, including Virgil van Dijk and Tim Cahill.
While it is inevitable that clubs are always going to miss out on players for whatever reason, if Palace had van Dijk, Sigurdsson, Kane and Mendy in their starting 11, then wow, what a team Roy Hodgson would have at his disposal right now.
There was a mixed response from Palace fans, with many being frustrated by the missed chances, while others said that the club cannot complain as they sit fourth in the Premier League after the first four games.
Here are some of the responses below…
For every one of these there’s a Cenk Tosun
