Crystal Palace: Fans react to contract updates on duo

Many Crystal Palace fans are reacting to the latest reports which suggest that centre-back duo Gary Cahill and Scott Dann are discussing contract extensions with the club.

According to the Evening Standard and tweeted out by @cpfc_xtra, talks have been held with Dann over an extension while Cahill is also expected to be handed a new deal.

Both of their contracts are due to expire in the summer as things stand, but they have both been crucial to the club this season as they have played a combined 22 times in the Premier League (Cahill 10 times, Dann 12 times).

They are both experienced veterans of the game, and are now both in their mid-thirties, so despite the quality they have shown over recent seasons, the South London fan base are not pleased.  It is understandable as the Palace defence has not looked great this campaign. They have conceded 43 goals, which is the joint-second most in the division (SofaScore) and so although the two staying would be good for squad depth, the club really need to seek out upgrades.

Here is how Palace fans reacted to the news:

“Love Dann but I’d have to keep Cahill over Dann.. keeping both seems odd if we are bringing in this lad as well”

“These players get totally bossed by 20 to 30 year olds, why put up with them. Perhaps keep one on the wage bill to occasionally play, like someone has said but both is baffling.”

“Oh. So more of the same for next season. Good to know”
