A lot of Crystal Palace fans were not happy with manager Roy Hodgson following their club’s defeat to Wolves and they were not happy with a certain statistic that was shared on Twitter.
The Eagles Beak account tweeted out: ‘Since Roy Hodgson’s first game in charge in September 2017, the Eagles have failed to score in 39 Premier League matches. Only Brighton have done so more (40)’.
Hodgson often sets his teams up to focus on their defensive structure, and this has always been known by those associated with the club. It was summed up last season by the fact they only scored thirty-one goals in the Premier League, which was the second-lowest total in the division.
If the results are good, then stats like this don’t look as bad, however, when they aren’t winning and are only managing two shots on target against Wolves, these type of stats get extra attention.
The manager will need to find the perfect mix of both attack and defence if he wants to keep the fan base happy. Next up for Roy Hodgson is Leeds United. There will be a lot of expectation from the fan base to see their club to bounce back against the recently promoted side.
Here is what Palace fans had to say about the stat:
