Crystal Palace fans have paid their tributes to defender Martin Kelly after yesterday marked his five-year anniversary since joining the club.
The 29-year-old joined the Eagles from Liverpool for £1.5m in the summer of 2014, and has been an important part of the squad since his arrival, making 125 appearances (per Transfermarkt) for the club.
Indeed, his ability to play in the centre or right of defence has meant that he has often needed to be called upon at Palace, with 117 of his career appearances coming as a full-back and 49 as a central defender.
The Liverpudlian will perhaps be remembered most for his important goal against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane in Palace’s run to the FA Cup Final in 2016. Playing at right-back on the day, he scored the one goal that saw the Eagles progress into the last eight.
The Palace faithful clearly have a lot of love for Kelly, as shown by the response to his anniversary on Twitter.
Here are some of the best responses…
£1.5M, incredible bargain for a solid premier league defender.
