Crystal Palace: Fans react to Matt Woosnam’s update on academy prospect

Recent news has been circulating this week around a youth player at Crystal Palace, and a lot of fans are reacting following an update from journalist Matt Woosnam.

The news surrounds youth player Jaden Raymond, with recent reports from O Jogo suggesting that Portuguese side Vitória Guimarães have agreed a a three-year contract with the central midfielder. However, Woosnam, who writes for the Athletic, has provided a positive update as he writes that the club remain hopeful of keeping Raymond.

Is it crucial Palace keep hold of their youth?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The Eagles have the second oldest squad on average in the league, per 101 Great Goals, so looking towards their youth is something the club should be doing. Palace do have a strong history when it comes to developing young players, with the likes of Wilfried Zaha, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Moses and Nathaniel Clyne all previously coming through their academy.

With the club recently being given the green light to upgrade their facilities, they will hopefully be able to bring more youth players into the senior side in the future, which would help save money, and attract more potential stars to the club, via Crystal Palace.

Raymond is highly rated, and with Palace losing Wan-Bissaka to Manchester United last summer, fans are rightfully worried a similar situation will happen here where the potential star wants to leave.

Why would he stay? We don’t give youth a chance at all. Why would any youngster want to waste their time and talent with no chance of breaking into the first team? #CPFC

I really hope we can keep him

I also hope we can keep him if he is as good as the interest would suggest.

You do wonder what chance he would ever have for 1st team games at Palace though, our U17 World Cup winner Nya Kirby is now 20 and 4 months.

By that age Zaha had already made 100 Palace appearances.

I hope we keep him but we just play the youngsters. AWB only got a game because we were desperate.

Please keep him Palace

Why would he stay apart from Wan Bissaka who was forced into the squad through injuries youth don’t get a look in at Palace 🤔
