Crystal Palace: Fans react to tweet about Julian Speroni

A lot of Crystal Palace fans are discussing former goalkeeper Julian Speroni after a fan posted footage of the Argentinian during his time at the club.

The video shows when the player was commemorated with a lifetime achievement award by the chariman for his services to the club, via Dugout. It made many fans of the South London side emotional with one saying: “Goosebumps. An incredible human being who always gave me time even when I know he didn’t have it.”

The goalkeeper was pivotal in helping the side get promoted to the Premier League as he made two world class saves during the playoffs, one against Brighton in the 2-0 victory at the Amex, via BBC Sport, and the other against Watford at Wembley, denying Troy Deeney the chance to score, via BBC Sport.

He arrived from Scottish side Dundee for £900,000 back in 2004, per Transfermarkt, and went on to make 402 appearances for the Eagles before retiring in 2019.

He is loved by all at the club, and it was be interesting to see if he is honoured by the South London side in anyway in the future. He will definitely go down in Palace history as a legend, with one supporter even labelling him as “Mr Crystal Palace.”

He also had a testimonial at the club, via Crystal Palace, highlighting how crucial a player he was to the club for over ten years.
