Many Crystal Palace fans are slating Andros Townsend for his performance in the 4-0 loss against Manchester City.
It was easy to see why many were frustrated as the winger picked up a 5.8 rating, (SofaScore) and this was the second lowest rating on the pitch out of everyone who featured. He lost ten ground duels, made no key passes, and only touched the ball 44 times. He also lost possession 22 times. Following the game, one fan said ‘that’s how poor of a player he is’ after seeing his performance.
The result would not have helped fans of the South London side, especially as they did not have a shot on target the whole game. The 29-year-old had a good start to the season, picking up one goal and two assists in his first three games (Transfermarkt). However, since then, he only managed one goal-contribution and he is starting to mirror the form which saw him get dropped last season.
With West Ham United up next for the Eagles, Townsend and the rest of squad will have to perform much better to make sure they don’t get involved in a relegation dog fight.
Here is what Palace fans said about Townsend:
“We need to sign new wingers Townsend is done.”
“Good to see Townsend still can’t control a football, took the touch went behind him and almost fell over the ball quality player he really is.”
“Be honest do you watch the game. Set up all wrong Townsend a legend in my eyes but tonight was bad. Roy got it wrong again and subs to late”
“Townsend isn’t even the best player in his own house. That’s how poor of a player he is. He needs to go. He isn’t even a championship player. All he cares about is his talk sport interviews. Do one”
“Great strike, but Dros Townsend gives the ball away here too easily and far too regularly:( #cpfc“
“I’ve had enough of the likes of Townsend, Van Aanholt, Sakho, Benteke! Get rid and move on? #CPFC”
