Sky Sports journalist Rob Dorsett has shared Crystal Palace’s interest in Leicester City midfielder Boubakary Soumare.

The Lowdown: Soumare linked with Palace

Labelled “a powerful and technical player” by former Lille CEO Marc Ing, Soumare has made 30 appearances for the Foxes but is yet to feature during the current campaign under Brendan Rodgers.

The 23-year-old signed for the Foxes last year in a deal worth £17m but has seemingly struggled to break into Leicester’s first-choice XI, starting just 12 top-flight matches for his current club.

Palace were reportedly ready to make a move for the Frenchman over the weekend, and Dorsett has credited those rumours in the last 24 hours.

The Latest: Dorsett’s post

The Sky Sports reporter took to Twitter on Monday afternoon to provide an update on Soumare.

He said that Palace are ‘interested’ in the midfielder, with Leicester open to offers. Dorsett added that the 23-year-old had been keen on a move back to France with Monaco, although the Ligue 1 club's first bid has been turned down.

The Verdict: A gamble?

Leicester are seemingly willing to cash in on the midfielder after just 12 months in the Premier League, so a move to Selhurst Park could be a gamble for Dougie Freedman and Steve Parish.

Patrick Vieira has already brought in a new holding midfielder this summer by signing Cheick Doucoure for £21m, so the club appear to be fairly well-stocked in that department for now.

However, it looks as if Eagles officials are fans of Soumare, and they may well feel that they can get the best out of him at Selhurst Park, something that Leicester have seemingly failed to do.
