Crystal Palace: Kyogo Furuhashi would ‘definitely improve’ Eagles

Ibrox, Glasgow, Scotland, Britain - January 2, 2023. Celtic's Kyogo Furuhashi after the match.

Rumoured Crystal Palace transfer target Kyogo Furuhashi would ‘definitely improve’ the Eagles if they signed him, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The Lowdown: Furuhashi linked with Palace move

Patrick Vieira will no doubt be keen to make key additions during the summer transfer window, as he looks to take his side up another level moving forward.

One player who has been linked with a move to Palace is Furuhashi, who’s scored 19 goals in just 21 starts for Celtic in the Scottish Premiership this season.

The Japanese attacker isn’t out of contract with the Hoops until 2025 but a move to the Premier League could appeal before then with the Eagles eyeing a move.

The Latest: Journalist talks up move

Speaking to Give Me Sport, O’Rourke claimed that Furuhashi would be a strong signing by the Eagles this summer:

“Crystal Palace fans, they’d really enjoy watching him because he’s a really good finisher and has a really good work ethic as well.

“So, I think he could be somebody who would definitely improve that Crystal Palace forward line.”

The Verdict: Strong summer option

While Palace have a plethora of attacking talent currently, whether it be Wilfried Zaha, Michael Olise or Eberechi Eze, they are still lacking a top-quality centre forward.

Odsonne Edouard and Jean-Philippe Mateta have only scored four league goals between them this season, highlighting how much Furuhashi could be an upgrade.

Granted, the step up to the Premier League is huge but 42 goals in 66 appearances for Celtic is hugely impressive, while Ange Postecoglou has hailed him as ‘incredible’.

Should Zaha leave this summer, Furuhashi could also be viewed as a strong replacement for him, although the preferable outcome is clearly for the Ivorian to stay put.
