Crystal Palace could be tempted to sell Eberechi Eze to Newcastle United, according to The Sun’s Paul Jiggins.
The Lowdown: Bid already made
The Eagles were fairly quiet in the January transfer window, although they did receive an offer from Eddie Howe’s side for the 23-year-old.
Should Palace sell Eze to Newcastle?
The Magpies offered to pay Palace £5m to take Eze on loan for the second half of the season with a view to a £35m permanent deal in the summer.
Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman ‘flatly rejected’ that bid, although once the season comes to a close, Palace may have a new offer for Eze to which they might need to respond.
The Latest: £45m move in the pipeline…
According to The Sun, Newcastle are eyeing a £45m move for Eze ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
Jiggings claims that Palace could be tempted by that fee as they would more than double their money on the £17m they spent to sign him from QPR.
The Verdict: What should Palace do?
It seems as if the attacking midfielder is still getting up to speed following a lengthy layoff, but Vieira will need to decide if he sees the 23-year-old as part of his long-term plans at Selhurst Park.
Roy Hodgson was the man who brought Eze to the club, whereas Vieira has brought in Michal Olise and Odsonne Edouard and has used the pair on the flanks. Conor Gallagher looks set to return to Chelsea in the summer, so selling Eze as well could be a risky move in that case.
