Chelsea could be planning the shock transfer of the January window with a move for Real Madrid’s Gonzalo Higuain.
According to reports from the Spanish media Real president, Florentino Perez, is willing to let one of their star players move to Stanford Bridge as long as the Blues can stump up the £40m asking price.
Perhaps Perez has an even bigger deal up his sleeve and needs to free up some cash to make it happen, a £70m Wayne Rooney bid has even been suggested, who knows?
Whatever the reason for the statement it will certainly alert many of the major clubs in Europe as Higuain has made quite a start to this season as he has become one of Jose Mourinho’s main attacking players in a 4-3-3, scoring 12 goals in 15 games.
Chelsea could definitely do with a striker; Fernando Torres’ impersonator is still putting is lacklustre performances and with Nicolas Anelka killing what’s left of his career in China, it only really leaves Daniel Sturridge and Didier Drogba.
The Argentine international seems the type of player that would easily adapt to English football due to his pace, power and ability on the ball, but given Mourinho values Higuian it could be a case of Perez selling him from under his nose.
Liverpool have also been linked with the 23-year-old, as far back as August this year and since the new American takeover by FSG, have spent £60m in the last January window on Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez and then £20m on Jordon Henderson and Charlie Adam.
So it could well be a two-way battle for the Los Blancos front-man, and if it does go through it could well spark a series of other deals; as Carroll’s move Liverpool earlier this year did.

yes we (lfc)need him to do the damages upfront together with our all action man LUIS SUAREZ,also BELLAMY-KUYT-MAXI-pls kenny and comolli do everything to bring these guy (HIGUAIN)to ANFIELD he’ll be a perfect addition to us.
All talk and no play makes Jack a dull boy!
Shut up you boring mug
They can have him for 40 mil. Liverpool doesn’t mind if they sell Torres back for 15+5 based on appearances and goals.
We rather have Torres back than Higuan.
Torres back!! I don’t think so. His days are gone & if he really wanted to play for Liverpool he would have shown it on the pitch before he left.. I didn’t see the desire. So bring in someone with that desire & passion.
id rather sell that idiot avb then torres
Sign Higuain & Torres.
Sell out Kuyt & Carroll.
