De Boer must give these 2 Crystal Palace players a chance vs Liverpool on Saturday

Crystal Palace fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern are still shocked by their 3-0 home defeat last weekend to newly promoted Huddersfield Town.

Frank De Boer’s new expansive 3-4-3 formation certainly didn’t get off to the best of starts.

Along with new signings Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Ruben Loftus-Cheek there seems a lot of training ground work still to do.

Our punters believe that maybe bringing these two players back in to the fray could erase last weeks memories and kick start a season that they won’t be wanting to get into a relegation dogfight.

If Frank De Boer is to see his new plans fall into place maybe leaning on experience to start with might help.

So, with that in mind, here are two players Palace should give a chance to against Liverpool this weekend:

James Tomkins

£10 million signing Tomkins mainly missed the back end of last season through injury.

Co-incidentally Crystal Palace lost the three games he missed and kept a clean sheet when he returned.

Fosu-Mensah debuted at centre back on Saturday but De Boer could be looking to give Tomkins more than the 12 minutes he had versus Huddersfield to give a little experience while they adjust the the new formation and tactics.

Andros Townsend

Andros Townsend’s Palace career hasn’t exactly set alight Selhurst Park and with him being linked with a move away by The Mirror, you may think he’s not in Frank De Boer’s plans.

But, in pre-season Townsend shone in the wing back role within the new 3-4-3 layout and so he deserves another crack.

He has the ability to play on either flank and provides pace, power and attacking flair going forward.

Maybe again leaning on the experience of the England international will just see Palace pick up the three points this weekend.
